Foods for breast milk production
I am asking for my wife, she is nursing our first child and would love to know if there are Nigerian foods that boost milk production in breastfeeding mothers.
Several Nigerian foods have been known to trigger instant milk production in Nursing mothers and one thing quite similar with most of the foods is that they all contain lots of moist.
I witnessed the breastfeeding of my youngest brother and several of my cousins, hence I can say a few things about breast milk producing foods.
Besides the foods, nursing mothers are encouraged to drink lots of water.
Since breast milk is composed of about 88% water, a breastfeeding mother needs an ample amount of water to keep hydration level ups and support milk production.
So staying well-hydrated is crucial for ensuring an adequate supply of breast milk for the new born baby.

- Vegetables and Fruits: Large fruits like watermelon and cucumbers provide and generous amount of minerals and vitamins, Including a variety of vegetables and fruits in the diet provides essential nutrients, several salad recipe already exist in this blog. Other fruits and vegetables include spinach, ugu (pumpkin leaves), bitter leaf, water leaf, oranges, and bananas.
- Oatmeal: Due to their high fiber and iron content, oats are generally considered a stimulant for breast milk in nursing mothers. You can make oat porridge or turn them into swallow and pair with vegetable soup.
- Fish: Nigerian cuisine includes various types of fishes like sardine, mackerel, catfish, and tilapia. they are good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for both the mother and the baby.
